Just Some Words

Sometimes I sit and wonder,
If Romeo really loved Juliet
Or if she still lived, would she be a capulet
I wonder if Al Pacino never lived,
Would we still have Scarface
Or if drugs didn't exist,
Would there still be a reason to shoot up the place?
I wonder if Obama didn't win the election,
Who would be the face of hope
Or would Americans just find another way to cope
If there was no economic crisis,
what would the dilemma be
Or would we resort back to the fight against poverty?
I wonder if the bum at the corner
begging for pocket change and pennies,
Is gonna use his income for a bottle of henny
I wonder if we still had laws of prohibition,
Would alcoholic men still beat on helpless women
Or would they find a way to continue their sippin,
and all of their other deadly addictions?

I wonder if MJ never died,
Would people still rep him with a sense of pride
Would Tupac still be rappin' if he never got shot
Finding ways to kill with verbal bullets of a glock
I wonder if illimunati really exists,
Or if it's a myth to throw off the 99%
I wonder if Casey Anthony never killed her kid,
Would Nancy Grace still have a reason to throw a fit
Would Geraldo still say it's not about race,
If Trayvon Martin put a bullet in his face
Would the BART officer still be sorry,
If his execution wasn't streamed via 3G
If 9/11 never happened, why would Bush tell us we went to Iraq
Would it be to prevent the US from another terrorist attack
Would Rihanna's diamonds still shine bright
If Chris Brown and her never got in that fight
Would Kendrick Lamar, still spit bars
If he just rapped about money, clothes, and cars?
If Apple never re-hired Steve Jobs,
Would we still have iPhones and iPods
Would Kanye still be hated,
If he took the mic from Bey defending Taylor Swift
Would Lupe still rap about the Gaza strip,
If hip hop would've saved another little kid
Would the Feds still kill John Lennon
If he didn't tell all the people to imagine
Would suicide still be the end of Cobain,
If heroine didn't find its' way through his veins
Would JFK still have been assassinated,
If no one thought him and Marilyn dated
Would the US still be the land of the free,
If the Mayflower didn’t make it across the shining sea?

I wonder a lot of things
What if, would, or could be

What if we used our strengths
And turned our words into our fists
Using our time to make the world
A better place to exist
Taking attention away,
From drama and gossip
Giving our minds all these fillers
In the form of celeb babies and hook ups

The media is busy distracting,
Turning Kardashians' reality into acting
Making Hannah Montana think she’s hip hop,
I’m asking now, Miley, will you ‘please stop?!’
Will you use your attention to have a voice?
Like Sophia Bush advocates equality and choice?

Ellen Degeneres came out and never looked back,
Inspiring people that change,
Can be accomplished with tact
Abraham Lincoln, Ghandi, Mandela and Luther,
They helped give people a better future
Mother Teresa represents the good one person can do,
They are all one person, and guess who else is?

You.

Devil In A New Dress

What is "Devil In A New Dress?"  Devil In A New Dress is about looking at something not just for what it is, but what it could be. When it comes to fashion, you can look at an item of clothing and wonder 'what would I wear this with?' The question isn't about looking at the item individually, but rather how it could be thrown together with the right accessories, shoes, or jacket and instantly make an ensemble flow. It's about looking at old styles and adding some modern flare. It's about opening your mind to new possibilities that are edgy and break the rules while making the new ones up as you go along.  "Devil In A New Dress" is a song by Kanye West who is my favorite artist. In the song he raps,  "Put your hands to the constellations, The way you look should be a sin, you my sensation I know I'm preaching to the congregation We love Jesus but you done learned a lot from Satan" This is  what Devil In A New ...

Kendrick

There are not many moments in life where you can remember the first time you heard a particular artist or musician and knew you were a fan immediately. In the late summer of 2011, I remember the moment I first heard Kendrick Lamar. My brother had just burned me The Game's R.E.D. Album and I was listening to the intro. The second track, "The City" came on and I was already blown away by the melodic, soulful beat accompanied by the female vocals that sounded like a gospel followed by The Game's verse. And then I heard Kendrick Lamar.  At that moment, I knew Kendrick Lamar was unlike anyone I had ever heard before. His voice is raspy, lyrics are poetic, and he raps in a way where he builds up by getting more and more aggressive almost as if he's telling a story and building to the climax with his flow. And then the outro. Oh my god. I immediately downloaded his album Overly Dedicated on iTunes for $6.99 and was impressed at his true, lyrical talent. It's...

Nike Women's Marathon

Nike Women's Marathon This was my second year running a half in the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco. My experience this time around was way better than the first and I know it's because I got to run with my best friend and partner in crime, Daisy. That's Daisy on the left!! A few facts about the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco: 1. It is the largest women's marathon in the world with more than 30,000 people participating this year. 2. This year was the 10th anniversary of the run. 3. All finishers of the race receive a Tiffany & Co. necklace. 4. The scenery is amazing. 5. The hills suck. When my friend Daisy and I got to San Francisco the day before for the expo, the energy in the city was electric. We walked around the expo for a little while taking pictures, getting free stuff, and checking out all the new Nike gear. After we got our packets, we headed over to the Nike store. One of the walls ...
