Make America Think Again

What happened to the days when you could agree to disagree? When you wanted to be in a room full of people with different opinions so that you could have an intellectual conversation and stimulate the growth of your mind? When everyone didn’t feel the need to say you’re wrong and fire you from their life because you thought differently?

Today, people get offended by everything. You can’t say anything without pissing someone off. I would imagine this has always been the case but no one ever spoke up about it. I’ve been surrounded by people with different views my whole life. Been a Democrat, a republican, only to realize I live in the gray. I can’t fit all of my ideals in to one box so I live outside of it. Since I have been on both sides, I see both points of view. I know the argument someone else will make before they even make it. I respect everyone’s opinion. Since we are all entitled to that— our opinion. I’ve researched so many theories, watched a lot of documentaries, spent hours listening to podcasts trying to form my own thesis as to why people want to get hypocritically offended by everything. It’s my belief that people now want to feel superior to others by rationalizing how their identity has somehow been marginalized or persecuted and in turn make people who are not in their marginalized group feel like they are the outcast. The majority wants to be the minority when the minority has fought so hard to be the majority. Let that sink in for a minute.

The easiest topic I can discuss to illustrate my point is regarding the past presidential election. Hilary or Trump. Personally, I don’t vote because I’m a libertarian and it makes no difference if I do. I won’t even go in to my conspiracy theory side of how all politics are bullshit. That’s for another post. But let’s imagine the electoral college and voting is real. The only people who actually “liked” Hilary were the elite celebrity supporters. None of the general public really liked either candidate. People liked Bernie but that’s getting pretty close to socialism. Plus, the Democratic Party pretty much ruined any chances of Bernie winning primary. According to the media, Trump is a mysogynistic racist. That’s the narrative they have played for us and are running with today.

So basically people hate both candidates 50/50. It was a lose/lose situation. But now every liberal is bashing everyone who supports Trump calling them racist bigots. Why?! People have lost friendships because of this election. I speak from experience because the only time one of my friends and I have argued is because I was supporting Trump. We are still friends but it was an awkward few minutes at the bar. Chances are, you have friends who voted for Trump. At this time I need to put in that cliche preface and say that I don’t agree with everything Trump says or does. Does he say stupid shit? Yes. Does he act like an idiot? Yes. Do I hate him? No, what’s the point.

Now let’s imagine for a minute Hilary won the election. I don’t think there’s any trump supporter that would’ve stopped being friends with someone because they voted for Hilary.

I think Liberals are actually happy that Trump was elected. Without him, they wouldn’t have anyone to complain about or make them feel like they have been marginalized and in turn, would not walk around having an attitude that they are superior to everyone else. They wouldn’t be able to shut people out and would be forced to listen to different points of view. Instead, they treat conservatives as if they are soldiers in Nazi Germany fighting for a nationalist nation. Like let’s relax guys. We still leave in America where we have freedom. We can walk outside of our home and not have to worry about being shot because of our religion.

People need to learn to have more empathy and understanding. Kanye came out this week and said he loves everyone including trump even though he doesn’t agree with everything he does because he doesn’t agree with everything anyone does. He is being crucified. Why is it a bad thing to be empathetic and want to understand other people’s points of views? What happened to the days we could have constructive dialogue? Without different opinions, we are never forced to use critical thinking and grow as a society. We can't have constructive debates because people get too emotional and take logic out of the equation. Who wants to live in a world where everyone thinks the same? Liberals, that's who. Didn’t Martin Luther King say the only way to drive out hate is by love? The only love people are giving is to themselves and without enough for the right of the aisle.

Segregation has returned in the form of a political ideals. We need to be surrounded by people who think differently. It’s like that saying—if you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room. Well if you’re in a room full of people who all think like you, you’re still in the wrong room. So get the fuck out of the square room and think freely.

Devil In A New Dress

What is "Devil In A New Dress?"  Devil In A New Dress is about looking at something not just for what it is, but what it could be. When it comes to fashion, you can look at an item of clothing and wonder 'what would I wear this with?' The question isn't about looking at the item individually, but rather how it could be thrown together with the right accessories, shoes, or jacket and instantly make an ensemble flow. It's about looking at old styles and adding some modern flare. It's about opening your mind to new possibilities that are edgy and break the rules while making the new ones up as you go along.  "Devil In A New Dress" is a song by Kanye West who is my favorite artist. In the song he raps,  "Put your hands to the constellations, The way you look should be a sin, you my sensation I know I'm preaching to the congregation We love Jesus but you done learned a lot from Satan" This is  what Devil In A New ...

Nike Women's Marathon

Nike Women's Marathon This was my second year running a half in the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco. My experience this time around was way better than the first and I know it's because I got to run with my best friend and partner in crime, Daisy. That's Daisy on the left!! A few facts about the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco: 1. It is the largest women's marathon in the world with more than 30,000 people participating this year. 2. This year was the 10th anniversary of the run. 3. All finishers of the race receive a Tiffany & Co. necklace. 4. The scenery is amazing. 5. The hills suck. When my friend Daisy and I got to San Francisco the day before for the expo, the energy in the city was electric. We walked around the expo for a little while taking pictures, getting free stuff, and checking out all the new Nike gear. After we got our packets, we headed over to the Nike store. One of the walls ...

Kendrick

There are not many moments in life where you can remember the first time you heard a particular artist or musician and knew you were a fan immediately. In the late summer of 2011, I remember the moment I first heard Kendrick Lamar. My brother had just burned me The Game's R.E.D. Album and I was listening to the intro. The second track, "The City" came on and I was already blown away by the melodic, soulful beat accompanied by the female vocals that sounded like a gospel followed by The Game's verse. And then I heard Kendrick Lamar.  At that moment, I knew Kendrick Lamar was unlike anyone I had ever heard before. His voice is raspy, lyrics are poetic, and he raps in a way where he builds up by getting more and more aggressive almost as if he's telling a story and building to the climax with his flow. And then the outro. Oh my god. I immediately downloaded his album Overly Dedicated on iTunes for $6.99 and was impressed at his true, lyrical talent. It's...
