You're Still My Chosen One

I awoke to a New Years Day surprise with Kanye West releasing his new single, “Only One.” I couldn't help but fight the feeling of my  eyes watering up as I read the emotionally charged lyrics Kanye posted on his website with the song. I held back tears in feeling empathy, anticipation and excitement.

Listening to the song, I forget that it is Kanye singing from the perspective of his late mother, Donda West,  and not actually her voice. You can feel his pain, loss, and heartache with the intimate view on what goes on inside his head now that he has had his first child.

“Only One” features Paul McCartney accompanying on keyboard in the background which is a much different tune from Yeezus, where he screamed and yelled his misogynistic point-of-view throughout the album.

This song makes me wonder: is the new album going to be the next 808’s & Heartbreak? Will the entire album be Kanye singing, or just this song?

The one thing that is evident in every Kanye West song is his internal struggle between being egotistical and self-conscious.

“I know you’re happy. Cause I can see it. So tell the voice inside ya head to believe it”

With all of the money, fame, and love, Kanye is still having an internal struggle over being happy. Is it that he’s not good enough? Or is it that he will never feel fulfilled with his mother being gone?

Kanye continues to progress musically with every album and I can’t wait to hear what’s next.

We will be waiting, Kanye.

Make America Think Again

What happened to the days when you could agree to disagree? When you wanted to be in a room full of people with different opinions so that you could have an intellectual conversation and stimulate the growth of your mind? When everyone didn’t feel the need to say you’re wrong and fire you from their life because you thought differently? Today, people get offended by everything. You can’t say anything without pissing someone off. I would imagine this has always been the case but no one ever spoke up about it. I’ve been surrounded by people with different views my whole life. Been a Democrat, a republican, only to realize I live in the gray. I can’t fit all of my ideals in to one box so I live outside of it. Since I have been on both sides, I see both points of view. I know the argument someone else will make before they even make it. I respect everyone’s opinion. Since we are all entitled to that— our opinion. I’ve researched so many theories, watched a lot of documentaries, spent hou...

Behind These Castle Walls

Summer may be over but that doesn't mean you have to stop wearing shorts! Everyone who knows me knows I can't get enough of the urban look. Or skulls. I love everything that is spikes and skulls. Today was raining all day so looking at this picture makes me realize how much I'm going to miss those beautiful, sunny days. I still say you can wear shorts, though. Just throw on some cute leggings or tights and you will be able to stay warm and still wear shorts with any kind of weather! In other news, make sure to check out the Pusha T album. It is dope! I will have a review posted soon. Until next time! Outfit Jacket: Foreign Exchange Shirt: H&M Shorts: Lulu Necklace: Foreign Exchange Shoes: Madden Girl

Top 5 Best Dressed NBA Draft Picks

In the last twenty years, something incredible has happened with NBA and fashion. I like to think it all started when Allen Iverson brought his hip-hop influenced style to the NBA and it has evolved quite a bit since then. Possibly my two favorite things in this World are the NBA and fashion so I have compiled a list of my top five best dressed NBA draft picks. In the words of Russell Westbrook, why not? 5. Devin Booker-2015 Phoenix Suns The color coordination here is impeccable 4. Lebron James- 2003 Cleveland Cavaliers All white- bold choice my friend. I'm not mad. 3. Shaquille O'Neal- 1992 Orlando Magic This is pretty phenomenal considering it was 1992. 2. Brandon Ingram- 2016 Los Angeles Lakers Sleek and flashy. Perfect for LA. 1. D'Angelo Russell- 2015 Los Angeles Lakers Red, white, and a bowtie. Just how our founding fathers envisioned. Three out of five of the people on my list have played in Los Angeles so it's fair to say LA knows...
